Course Is Open!

Yesterday the first group teed off at 9am on March 21st. That is three weeks earlier than the average opening date of the second week in April. The course made it out of winter very well this year. That gives us the ability to focus on course clean-up rather than dead turf. The greens have been mowed two times, once at .150" and .125". We will continue to mow our greens at .125" until summer hits. This year we will be rolling our greens a minimum of four days per week to keep green speeds consistent and smooth. The tees, approaches and fairways were also lowered from .45" to .4".
The goal for this week and early next week is the have all of the debris cleaned off of the course. We also have numerous stump holes to fill, seed and mat. Then our focus will be on getting "bird baths" in fairways prepped for seed.
I over heard a group of golfers yesterday commenting on how slow the greens were. In my opinion we cannot expect July condition's in MARCH. That is impossible. Lets just be happy the course made it out of winter in Great shape and we are back playing golf at a beautiful course.
